Antler Travels: South London

At Antler, we don’t just talk about travel – we live it. Through our stories and guides, we celebrate the places that shape our legacy and inspire our journeys. Our Antler Travels series takes you deeper into the destinations that move us, guided by the experiences and recommendations of our team – travellers who’ve ventured far and wide.

This time, we’re staying close to home. Antler was born in Bury, Greater Manchester, in 1914, but today, our headquarters are in London – a global epicentre of travel, design, and culture. South London, in particular, is where our luggage design takes flight, where our creativity meets community, and where we continue to evolve as a British travel brand with a worldwide outlook.

We asked Antler’s Senior Social & Community Manager, Aysen, to share her South London story.

Antler: What’s your personal connection to London?

Aysen: I’m a born-and-bred South Londoner, but after university, I made the move across the river and have spent the last 10 years in North London. (If you live in London, you’ll know that this is a big deal!) Since joining Antler and spending more time back in South London, I’ve noticed just how much it has evolved. Having grown up here, I remember it feeling more residential and a little rough around the edges. Now, it has an energy that feels both familiar and new – with independent cafes on every corner, a massive food scene, and a creative energy that runs through the city.

What do you love most about South London?

There’s such a strong sense of community. South London has always had a local spirit, and even as it evolves, that hasn’t changed. Whether it’s a friendly barista who remembers your morning coffee order, the thriving cultures at Borough Market, or the way people gather to watch the sunset in Greenwich Park, there’s a warmth and authenticity that sets it apart from other areas in the city.

A fun fact or hidden gem you love?

I love how many green spaces there are – it’s not just concrete buildings. There’s something so special about being in the heart of the city but still having access to beautiful spaces like Dulwich Park, Crystal Palace Park, and even Battersea Park, where you can go boating on the lake during the summer.

What’s your go-to Antler bag for a day in London?

I love to carry my Essential Tote Bag – it’s the perfect size for a day moseying about, whether I’m commuting to work or spending a Saturday exploring. It fits my laptop, water bottle, a good book, and all the essentials without feeling bulky. Plus, the weather in Britain can be unpredictable, so having something lightweight and durable is a must.

If you were to play tour guide for a day, who would you bring?

I’d love for my boyfriend to explore more of South London. He’s originally from the Midlands and has only ever spent time in North London and West London. There’s so much to discover here – from the art galleries and parks, to hidden cocktail bars and restaurants. It’s part of the city that keeps on giving, and I’d love to show him my favourite spots.
