We shot our most recent campaign for our brand new Clifton cases and Chelsea lifestyle bags at London’s legendary hotel, The Laslett, Notting Hill. Since it opened in 2015, this boutique bolthole has fast become a favourite amongst the fashion set, so here are five reasons why you should check it out.
1. It’s named after a legend
The Laslett takes its name from Rhaune Laslett, a well-loved Notting Hill community activist and organiser of the original Notting Hill Festival, which later became the Carnival. With a vision to unite the various cultures and customs in the area, the first festival was in September 1966 – if you’d gone along then, you’d have seen a West Indian New Orleans marching band, a Trinidadian steel band and Irish girl pipers.
2. You’ll be treated to some of London’s best brands
Book in for a stay and you’ll find London brands abound, from Workshop Coffee (they source, roast and brew their own beans), Joe’s Tea Co (ethical and organic? Yes please) to Sipsmith gin (needs no explaining) and Press London Juices. Your palette will be pleased whatever you choose.
3. You’ll find some seriously desirable design details
The designers you’ll encounter range from the award-winning Pinch, a design duo who create furniture and lighting that aims to endure and inspire – they made the bespoke Imo benches for the end of The Laslett’s beds, as well as the bedside tables and lobby sofas.
Race Furniture, an iconic British heritage brand founded just after the Second World War, sourced and supplied the hotel’s Classic BA dining chairs and original Carnegie Chairs, whilst Simon Day at Nocturne Workshop created a bespoke lighting collection. If all that doesn’t inspire you to shop independent for your own interiors, we don’t know what will.
4. There’s an on-site shop of curiosities
Now a permanent feature in The Laslett’s lobby, you’ll find the ‘Little Shop of Curiosities by Jerome Dodd’ – a pop-up shop from West London’s favourite eclectic antiques curator. His curation of curios, as seen in his cult shop, Les Couilles du Chien, just off Portobello Road, includes decorative crystals, geodes and taxidermy butterflies. Why go generic with your souvenirs?
5. It feels more like a neighbourhood hangout than a hotel
The dynamic ground floor at The Laslett is more neighbourhood hangout than hotel lobby, incorporating a library of British art and design books, walls of art, and a vintage Cocktail Cart which makes the rounds during cocktail hour. See you there.
